CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — An event celebrating local radio host Kat Simons took place in Chesterfield on Sunday, following her death in late June of this year.

The Friends of Kat Simons Foundation hosted a musical celebration to honor Kat Simons — beloved radio host of Mix 98.1 Richmond — on Sunday, Sept. 8 at Westchester Commons Concert Field.

The event helped support several causes Simons cared about — including animals, seniors and mental health — by featuring pet adoptions, food trucks and live music.

There were musical performances from local artists like Ryan Colton & Not Just 90’s Unplugged, the Susan Greenbaum Band, the 64 Crayons Band and the KOS band.

Dorothy Erlanger, an attendee of the event, spoke to 8News about the influence Simons had on the community and what the celebration provided residents.

“Kat Simons was such an institution in this community, and she was so committed to so many things,” said Erlanger. “I think it’s fabulous that this is being set up and all these fun things [are] going on for people to come out and enjoy — and families, and dogs and lots of entertainment.”
