Serving those who served: 9/11 remembrance events happening across Central Virginia

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — This year marks the 23rd anniversary of Sept. 11, 2001, when those throughout the U.S. are remembering and honoring people who lost their lives or were injured in the tragic terrorist attacks on American soil.

Those attacks occurred in New York City, N.Y., Arlington, Va., and Shanksville, Pa.

In ‘serving those who served,’ multiple events are scheduled across the Central region to participate in the day of remembrance:

Richmond

Virginia War Memorial: The Commonwealth of Virginia’s Patriot Day Ceremony

The annual ceremony will occur from 11 a.m.- 12 p.m. at in the Shrine of Memory: Global War on Terrorism and Beyond .

The ceremony will include a presentation of a Memorial Wreath along with the following line up:

  • Keynote speaker: Lynn Wright, former Deputy Director of Naval Intelligence and member of advisory board of Virginia Tech National Security Institute
  • Chuck Zingler, Commissioner, Virginia Department of Veterans Services (DVS)
  • Dr. Clay Mountcastle, Director, Virginia War Memorial
  • Tara Krohn, Freedom Flag Foundation
  • Pledge of Allegiance: Master Sergeant Pablo Talamonte, (U.S. Army, Ret.)
  • Music provided by Virginia Barbershop Chorus
