PHOTOS: 13th annual 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb

HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — The 13th annual 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb took place on Saturday as community members honored responders and civilians that died in the tragedy.

On Saturday, Sept. 14 the Metro Richmond Flying Squad hosted the 13th annual 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb at the Richmond Raceway starting at 7 a.m.

People had the choice between a 5k walk or a stair climb of 2,200 steps to represent the 110 stories of the World Trade Center that firefighters had to climb on 9/11.

Rick Talley — Deputy Chief with the Metro Richmond Flying Squad — spoke to 8News about how many people attended the event.

“We have about 350 climbers and walkers,” Talley said. “We have first responders and civilians, we have folks from as far away as North Carolina, Central Virginia — and all over the state of Virginia — [they] have come here to climb today and to honor those responders and the civilians that perished.”
