‘This is the future of our city’: Richmond community shares feedback about expansion of GRTC routes

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Leaders with Greater Richmond Transit Company (GRTC) are asking for feedback from Richmond area residents on their plans to expand their services and reach more riders.

Officials laid out the details and the information surrounding the North-South Pulse project during a afternoon community meeting on Monday, Sept. 17.

GRTC wants to create a new route that they say will reach into new corridors that will help better connect Richmond’s Northside and Southside. Residents say they are concerned about how this project will impact those who rely on public transportation.

“By no means is this a quick process. We are making an investment that will last for half a century and it’s going to take us some time to do it right,” said Henry Benden, a spokesperson for GRTC.

Benden says that the point of the North-South Pulse project is to enhance connectivity throughout the city, and the point of Monday’s meeting was to let the public know how they plan to do that and hear what they think about what’s already being put in motion.
