RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — The Poe Museum’s cat Pluto has died peacefully after serving as the museum’s beloved greeter and guide for 12 years.
In a Facebook post , The Poe Museum shared that its beloved resident cat Pluto died peacefully in the Enchanted Garden on Monday, Sept. 16 “without any pain, surrounded by his museum family, his brother Edgar and the veterinary tech that has attended him since he was a kitten.”
According to the museum, Pluto and his brother Edgar were found as kittens behind the Poe Shrine on an early November morning in 2012.
“Since then, they have become a permanent part of the museum,” the museum said in its statement on Facebook. “If you’ve ever visited, it was likely Pluto that greeted you at the door, followed you in the garden, or showed you to the next exhibit.”
The museum described Pluto as a social butterfly that was always eager to meet new people and “share his affection for chin scratches in return.”
