Flash flood warning issued for Richmond, nearby localities

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — The National Weather Service (NWS) issued a flash flood warning for the city of Richmond and multiple surrounding localities Monday evening.

According to the NWS, the following localities are under a flash flood warning until 7 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 30:

  • City of Richmond
  • Chesterfield County
  • Henrico County

A flash flood warning means that heavy rain from a thunderstorm or thunderstorms in the affected area will cause flooding in the immediate future.

Those in the affected area are advised to move to higher ground as soon as possible.

“Turn around, don’t drown when encountering flooded roads,” the NWS wrote in its alert. “Most flood deaths occur in vehicles.”
