Scoop: Lucky AF opening on Forest Hill Avenue next year

Eat Restaurant Partners will open a second location of their popular Lucky AF sushi restaurant on Forest Hill Avenue late next year.

Why it matters: South Richmond is getting a sushi joint.

State of play: EAT president and founder Chris Tsui inked a deal this week to open a Lucky AF in a corner unit of Dodson Development Group ‘s under-construction building at 4701 Forest Hill Ave.

  • That’s across the street from Little Nickel on the site of a former Bank of America branch.
  • It’ll join Janet’s Cafe & Bakery from two Charlottesville bakers, which is reportedly taking another of the retail spots for a spring 2025 opening.

Zoom in: The OG Lucky AF opened in 2020 in Scott’s Addition, serving up Bento boxes, apps, poke, and dozens of traditional and specialty rolls (hey there, Boujie AF roll with tempura lobster, filet mignon and four styles of caviar).

  • As with the group’s other restaurants (like Fat Dragon, PBR and Wong’s Tacos), the cocktails are fun and funky and the weekday happy hour deals stellar.
