‘I grabbed my purse and ran as fast as I could’: Henrico teacher, expecting mother loses everything in fire

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — A Henrico County teacher’s life was turned upside down in just a matter of minutes after a fire destroyed her apartment on Saturday.

“Literally, in a matter of a few hours, I went from having everything to pretty much a duffel bag with the stuff I was able to get that next day,” said Diamond Robinson, a middle school teacher in Henrico.

Robinson was settling into her new apartment at The Crossings at Bramblewood in Richmond just two weeks before the disaster struck.

“I was taking a nap around 6 or 7 [p.m.] when I heard people outside yelling, ‘Get out!’ — and then I smelled smoke,” Robinson said. “I looked outside and saw flames. I grabbed my purse and ran as fast as I could.”
