GRTC to offer new early morning on-demand service pilot for Richmond International Airport

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — The Greater Richmond Transit Company (GRTC) will have a new early morning on-demand service for people commuting to-and-from Richmond International Airport starting Jan. 1, 2025.

According to a release from the transit company on Monday, Dec. 30, the bus service will operate from 4 to 6 a.m. and will still be covered under GRTC’s Zero Fare operations.

This new program will replace a previous on-demand pilot program that was implemented by GRTC in 2021.

According to the GRTC website , “Several Zero Fare alternative transportation options are available for riders to choose. Rides may be requested only twice per day and only work from one GRTC bus stop to another.”

The services now run Monday through Sunday 4 to 6 a.m. and 11 p.m. to 2 a.m.

Riders will be able to request one ride per day from any GRTC stop to and from the Airport, this will be offered seven days a week. Route 7A and 7B will offer high-frequency services that will start at 5 a.m. to and from the airport.
