RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — A portion of Forest Hill Avenue in Richmond will see alternating closures for months as work on a water main replacement project continues, prompted by the April 2024 collapse of an area sewer main .
Work on water mains and laterals along Forest Hill Avenue began in May 2024 , about a month after a sewer main collapsed on that roadway. Since then, crews with the city’s Department of Public Utilities have been working to replace not only the collapsed water main, but multiple other deteriorating ones in the area.
The next stage of the project is scheduled to begin on Monday, Jan. 6, weather permitting. Forest Hill Avenue between W. 45th and W. 46th streets will see daily, alternating lane closures from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Flaggers will be present to direct drivers through the work zone. According to the department, no sidewalks, businesses or residences will be blocked.
