WASHINGTON ( DC News Now ) — With the cherry blossoms in bloom and warmer spring temperatures reported around much of the region, Metro said over 700,000 rail trips took place Saturday.
In a post on the X platform Sunday, Metro said 710,000 rail trips were reported on March 29, making it the second busiest Saturday ever and the busiest day since 2019.

Of those trips, 131,000 were at the Smithsonian station, the highest amount since 2012. The station, located on the National Mall near many of D.C.’s museums, is the closest Metro station to the National Cherry Blossom Festival, which takes place at the Tidal Basin.
