Virginia Severe Storm Alert: 60 mph Winds and Quarter-Size Hail Possible from 5–10 p.m. Saturday

Richmond, Va. – Strong to severe thunderstorms could develop across central and eastern Virginia late Saturday, bringing 60 mph wind gusts and hail up to the size of quarters between 5 and 10 p.m.

According to the National Weather Service in Wakefield, a Marginal to Slight Risk has been issued for much of the state, including Richmond, Farmville, Louisa, and Williamsburg. Storms are expected to intensify over the Piedmont this evening before gradually weakening overnight. While widespread severe weather isn’t expected, isolated intense cells could bring damaging winds and localized hail.

The most impacted areas lie along the I-64 and U.S. 360 corridors, where evening outdoor events and travel plans may be disrupted. Drivers should remain alert for rapidly changing conditions, especially around sunset.
