RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Richmond Navy Week is returning in the middle of May as part of a national outreach effort, coinciding with the 250th birthday of the U.S. Navy.
Richmond is one of 15 cities hosting the week this year from May 12 to May 18. The maritime celebration will feature more than 70 events aimed at sharing the importance of the Navy and defending national security with Virginians.
“Virginia has always had a strong military presence,” said Petty Officer Second Class Steven Wray, a graduate of Lloyd C. Bird High School, currently stationed in Pearl Harbor. “The Navy presence is huge in Norfolk and Virginia Beach but not seen as much in the Tri-City area.
