Virginia Flood Watch: Richmond, Norfolk Could See 4 Inches of Rain Through Tuesday Night

Richmond, Va. – A flood watch is in effect across central and eastern Virginia through late Tuesday night as steady rain and embedded thunderstorms threaten to dump up to 4 inches of rain on already saturated ground.

According to the National Weather Service in Wakefield, the heaviest rainfall is expected between Monday night and early Wednesday, with totals ranging from 2 to 4 inches. Flash flooding is possible in low-lying areas, especially in cities like Richmond, Norfolk, Suffolk, and Petersburg. The watch also includes nearly all of the I-95 and I-64 corridors.

In the Richmond metro area, Western Henrico, Chesterfield, and Powhatan counties could see rapid rises in creeks and poor drainage flooding in urban zones. Farther southeast, the cities of Norfolk, Chesapeake, and Virginia Beach are also under alert as runoff may overwhelm drainage systems…
