A hazardous weather alert was issued May 12 by the National Weather Service’s Wakefield office for portions of central, east central, north central, south central and southeast Virginia — including Petersburg, Hopewell and Colonial Heights — as large storm systems continue to move through the country.
The alert — which is expected to last until Sunday — warns of potentially excessive rainfall and thunderstorms throughout the week starting this afternoon and evening.
