Middle Atlantic Flood Alert: Heavy Rain Brings River Flooding Threat to Virginia, Maryland, and West Virginia

Richmond, Va. – Heavy rainfall continues to drench parts of Virginia, Maryland, and West Virginia, raising the threat of minor river flooding through Thursday, especially in hilly terrain and low-lying areas along the Rappahannock, James, and Potomac Rivers.

According to the National Weather Service Middle Atlantic River Forecast Center, an additional 2 to 3 inches of rain is expected today, with localized totals reaching 5 inches or more by Wednesday morning. The highest flood risk areas include northern and central Virginia, the Blue Ridge region, and parts of western Maryland and West Virginia.
