HOPEWELL, Va. (WWBT) – Inside the Davisville Community Center in Hopewell on Tuesday morning, a group of officers from the Hopewell Police Department wheeled in a scooter, decorated with a bouquet of balloons, for Larry Mason.
“I can do a lot of things I just couldn’t do anymore,” said Mason. “I can get around now, so I’m happy with that.”
For the past six months, the Hopewell man has been relying on his crutches after his scooter broke down.
“I’ve had shoulder surgery, so it really hurts to walk on those crutches,” he said. “It takes me about 10 to 15 minutes to walk from my house up here.”
A moment striking a chord with Sgt. Chris Hewett during his routine patrol in the area…
