Still Life Ceramics spins the wheel in Scott’s Addition

Still Life Ceramics, a popular bi-coastal ceramics studio with locations in Los Angeles and Detroit, is bringing its creative spark to Richmond. The new 7,200-square-foot studio opens June 5 at 1600 Altamont Avenue in Scott’s Addition, answering a growing need in the city’s arts community for more accessible pottery spaces.

The Richmond location features 24/7 member access, beginner-friendly classes, and hosts private events. Studio manager Jess Gary, who relocated to Richmond in 2021, understands the local demand firsthand.

“Richmond has an incredible ceramics community,” Gary said. “But when I moved here, I was surprised at how much trouble I had finding a studio to work out of. Most studios had long waitlists or very limited hours. I ended up building a home studio, but I missed the creative energy of a shared space.”…
