RICHMOND, Va. (WWBT) – Longtime education leader Dr. Billy Cannaday has died.
Among his positions, Cannaday was the superintendent of Chesterfield County Public Schools in the early 2000s, was once the superintendent of Public Instruction of the Virginia Department of Education, and served as the dean of the School of Continuing and Professional Studies at the University of Virginia.
“When he began, fewer than half of our schools were fully accredited,” Chesterfield County Public Schools said in a Facebook post. “Thanks to his dedication and leadership, every Chesterfield school had achieved full accreditation by the time he moved on to lead the Virginia Department of Education.”
