Richmond, Va. – Heavy rain is expected to drench much of central Virginia through Sunday, with up to 6 inches possible in and around downtown Richmond, raising the risk for flash flooding and dangerous travel into Father’s Day.
According to the National Weather Service in Wakefield, a Flood Watch remains in effect through Friday night for central and eastern Virginia. Locally heavy rainfall is expected Friday afternoon and evening, with additional rounds of thunderstorms likely through Sunday. Areas from Charlottesville to Richmond and down toward Emporia could see between 4 and 6 inches of rain, with isolated higher totals possible.
Roads in downtown Richmond, Interstate 64, and low-lying neighborhoods could flood quickly during intense downpours. In Williamsburg, Petersburg, and Farmville, 2–4 inches are likely, while coastal areas such as Norfolk and Virginia Beach could see around 2–3 inches…
