VDOT halts lane closures ahead of busy 4th of July travel weekend

RICHMOND, Va. (WWBT) – Over 2 million Virginians are anticipated to travel for Independence Day, and the Virginia Department of Transportation is working to ensure everyone has a safe trip to their destinations.

Roads are expected to be congested, and in an effort to reduce traffic, VDOT will lift lane closures.

This year, Independence Day will be celebrated on Friday, July 4, 2025, kicking off the weekend with various festivities.
