Site of the Battle of Glendale at Frayser’s Farm (near Richmond, VA)

American History Central’s Historical Marker of the Day (HMOTD) is “Seven Days’ Battles: Glendale (Frayser’s Farm).” This marker is in Mechanicsville, on the northeast corner of Richmond, Virginia.

Inscription

Here stood the center of Longstreet’s line of battle in the afternoon of June 30, 1862. The Confederates, coming from the west, attacked the Union line just beyond. The battle lasted all afternoon, with varying fortunes and much hand-to-hand fighting. Near nightfall Longstreet sent in A. P. Hill to relieve his exhausted men.

History of the Battle of Glendale

The Battle of Glendale, also known as the battles of Nelson’s Farm, Frayser’s Farm, Charles City Crossroads, White Oak Swamp, Riddell’s Shop, was fought on June 30, 1862, in Henrico County, Virginia. It was the fifth of the Seven Days Battles during the Peninsula Campaign. Union forces successfully withdrew to Malvern Hill, setting up the Battle of Malvern Hill the next day.
