Gas prices drop ahead of Fourth of July travel surge, lowest in four years

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — As millions of Americans gear up for Fourth of July road trips, there’s some good news waiting at the pump. Gas prices across the country — and right here in Virginia — are significantly lower than they were this time last year, potentially saving travelers hundreds of millions during the busy holiday weekend.

According to AAA, the national average for regular gasoline has dropped to about $3.17 per gallon, more than 30 cents less than last Fourth of July.
