RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Lightning struck a Richmond apartment complex late Wednesday night, sparking a large fire that dozens of firefighters battled amid severe storms.
Late in the evening on Wednesday, July 9, crews with the Richmond Fire Department were called to an apartment complex in the 1300 block of Altamont Avenue for report of a structure fire.
Fire officials at the scene told 8News that a civilian witnessed lightning strike the building. They then called emergency services.
A total of 44 firefighters responded to the apartment complex to fight the fire. It was put out quickly.
