Hopewell served with $6.8 million lawsuit from fired city manager

HOPEWELL, Va. (WRIC) — The city of Hopewell has been served with a nearly $7 million lawsuit from a fired city manager after the contentious terminations of two Black city employees back in May.

On Friday, July 18, Anthony Bessette, the city attorney of Hopewell, confirmed to 8News that his office just accepted “service on behalf of the City and the individual defendants.”

Bessette, in an email earlier this week, told 8News that the city will “respond in due course and vigorously defend the lawsuit.”…
