‘A way to give back:’ Group of volunteers helps firefighters battle extreme heat

RICHMOND, Va. (WWBT) – In an old Richmond fire station, the familiar sounds of a scanner still ring, as a lesser known part of the emergency response team waits to be called.

As temperatures soar throughout the summer months, the Metro Richmond Flying Squad is there to help keep firefighters and other first responders safe.

“When first responders are out at an incident, they get hot, they get cold, they get sweaty,” Chief Rick Talley of the Metro Richmond Flying Squad said. “So we basically provide comfort.”…
