RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — On Monday, Richmond will honor the memory of a police sergeant who was killed in the line of duty 100 years ago.
Sgt. J. Harvey Burke of the Richmond Police Department ended his watch on July 28, 1925. He was buried in the city’s Riverview Cemetery.
At 10 a.m. on Monday, July 28 — the 100th anniversary of his death — the department will join Burke’s family in honoring his memory with a centennial service.
The ceremony will be produced by Burke’s grandson, Penn Burke. Richmond Police Chief Rick Edwards, the Honor Guard and the Mounted Unit will all be in attendance.
