Races at the Colonial Downs race track in Virginia were canceled on Thursday after a jockey was unseated from his horse and airlifted to a hospital.
Colonial Downs, in New Kent, said that during the running of Race 7 on Thursday, jockey Tyler Conner was unseated when his horse, Stanza, “clipped heels.” In horse racing, clipping heels refers to when a horse’s front legs make contact with the hind legs, or heels, of the horse in front of it, which can have dangerous outcomes for both horses and riders.
Conner was “conscious” when he was airlifted to Virginia Commonwealth Hospital in Richmond, according to Colonial Downs. Officials did not reveal the nature or extent of his injuries…
