City of Richmond makes changes to City Hall visitor experience

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — The City of Richmond recently announced several changes that have been made to the visitor experience located on the first floor of City Hall.

According to a city release, as part of a larger movement to improve accessibility as well as transparency between the government and the general public, the changes include:

  • Improvements to City Hall wayfinding
  • Re-opening of the Marshall Street entrance
  • The addition of first floor service kiosks
  • Improved security measures
  • Re-introduction of a staffed concierge desk to assist visitors

In terms of security measures, there are new weapons detectors at the 9th Street entrance, offering detection capabilities beyond that of a standard metal detector, the release said.

There is also new color-blocked signage to indicate where visitors should go for certain first-floor services — green represents tax and utility payments, orange represents assessments, blue is for city treasurer, human resources and public utilities and pink represents permits, inspections and zoning…
