‘Something that will last:’ Local sorority marks Centennial with Habitat for Humanity build

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — The Upsilon Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated is celebrating their milestone with a gift that will last for generations, a home.

Members of the sorority are teaming up with Habitat for Humanity to build a house for a local family. Volunteers combined hard work with community service, while wearing hard hats swinging hammers, putting up walls, and transforming the construction site into a symbol of hope.

“This project is about more than just a house,” said Lisa Townes, Chapter President. “We felt there was no better way to empower our families and uplift our community than to help a family build their legacy by helping them to build their home.”…
