Prospective homeowners in metro Richmond are searching for homes anywhere they can find one — even if that means leaving, per a new report.
By the numbers: From April-June, 52% of Realtor.com listing views from Richmond shoppers went to homes outside the metro area.
- That’s an 11-point jump since 2019 when just 41% of local homebuyers were looking out of market.
Zoom in: Richmonders aren’t looking to go far, though. Nor are they looking at cheaper markets, per Realtor.com data.
- The top locations Richmond home buyers were searching in Q2 were: Virginia Beach (13.4%), D.C. and NoVa (6%), Charlottesville (4%) and Lynchburg (3.8%).
- And RVA continues to be a top destination for D.C. and NoVa transplants, at least in home searches.
- Residents there accounted for 31% of metro home searches in Q2.
