Mayo Island Park project moves forward

From neglected urban decay to a thriving exploratory green space and park — that’s the vision for the future of Richmond’s Mayo Island.

City leaders, including Mayor Danny Avula, and Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin joined together last week to celebrate a conservation easement that would permanently protect most of the 16-acre island from future development.

The easement is meant to help the city realize a decades-long vision of turning the island into a premier attraction, while ensuring it remains a park to be enjoyed for generations to come…
