Richmond mayor seeks millions in state money for water system improvements

RICHMOND, Va. (WWBT) – Richmond Mayor Danny Avula is asking Gov. Glenn Youngkin for $80 million in state funding to help prevent a repeat of last winter’s water crisis that left residents without water.

Avula sent a letter to the governor Wednesday requesting the funds to support the city’s $1.4 billion plan to overhaul Richmond’s water infrastructure over the next decade.
