Richmond Area Leaders and Feed More Take Action to Support Local Families Facing Possible SNAP Disruptions

The City of Richmond, Chesterfield County, and Henrico County are working with Feed More, Central Virginia’s food bank, to address possible disruptions to Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits due to a potential federal government shutdown. The shutdown could affect SNAP benefits starting November 1, 2025. Local governments and Feed More are taking steps to help residents who rely on these benefits.

The region is providing more than $200,000 to Feed More. This funding will help buy more food, expand distribution through Feed More’s network of 380 pantry partners, and offer extra resources in areas with the most need. Feed More plans to increase food distribution, with more information to be shared soon.

Residents who need help can visit Feedmore.org to find local food pantries. Community members can support these efforts by donating money to Feed More, volunteering through the Community Foundation for a Greater Richmond, or donating food as listed on Feed More’s website…
