Petersburg mother and son arrested for last week’s shooting at Petersburg High School

Petersburg Police say they have suspects in custody in connection with last week’s shooting at Petersburg High School that prompted the high school and an adjacent middle school to go on a brief lockdown.

In a statement, police said Demarco Evans, 21, and his mother Chatese Evans, 46, both of Petersburg, were picked up Nov. 2, a day after they were officially declared as suspects. Both are being held without bond at Riverside Regional Jail in Prince George County.

Demarco Evans has been charged with following offenses: discharging a firearm, reckless handling of a firearm, possession of a firearm on school grounds and shooting at a school building. Chatese Evans has been charged with obstruction of justice…
