State Police look for SUV that hit trooper, fled stop in Petersburg

Virginia State Police are looking for a driver who struck a state trooper Nov. 28 while fleeing a traffic stop an exit ramp off Interstate 85 in Petersburg.

It happened around 3:15 p.m. on the Squirrel Level Road ramp onto northbound I-85, VSP said in a statement. Troopers had set up a traffic check on the ramp and were advising motorists to have the proper documentation ready.

The driver of a white Ford with expired temporary tags told the officer he was not going to take part. The trooper put his hand on the car door handle and told the driver he was required to do so…
