Virginia State Police Stressing Safety with Winter and Holiday Approaching
Preliminary data indicates that six people died on Virginia’s roadway over the 2025 Thanksgiving holiday, including one Friday afternoon in Mappsville. The number is two fewer than in 2024, when eight people died in fatal crashes.* As of Dec. 1, 2025, preliminary data shows there have been 671 fatalities on Virginia roadways this year, compared to 788 in 2024.
The other fatal crashes occurred in Augusta, Carroll, Dinwiddie, and Pittsylvania counties as well as the City of Richmond. The fatal crash in Richmond on Nov. 29, 2025, involved a pedestrian.
