BBB warns of fake delivery text scams as holiday packages surge

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — As millions of people wait for last-minute holiday packages, the Better Business Bureau is warning shoppers to be on alert for a rise in delivery scams targeting distracted consumers.

According to the BBB, scammers are sending fake delivery text messages and emails designed to look like they’re coming from major shipping companies such as USPS, UPS or FedEx. The messages often claim there is a problem with a package — saying a delivery was missed, an address is incomplete or a shipment is on hold — and urge recipients to click a link immediately.

Those links can lead to fraudulent websites that are built to steal personal or financial information…
