Richmond-based litigator appointed Spanberger’s counsel to the governor

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Virginia’s soon-to-be 75th governor has announced another addition to her senior leadership team weeks away from the historic inauguration ceremony.

Gov.-elect Abigail Spanberger (D) announced Tuesday, Dec. 30, the appointment of Richmond-based litigator Matt McGuire as counsel to the governor.

Per Spanberger’s office, McGuire is experienced across public and private sectors, previously serving as principal deputy solicitor general in Virginia’s Office of the Attorney General.

“He will help ensure my administration works effectively across the executive branch to put Virginians first, secure wins for the Commonwealth, and achieve my goals of lowering costs for families, growing Virginia’s economy, and strengthening Virginia’s public schools,” said Spanberger in a release.
