RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Many Central Virginia school districts will remain closed or will shift to virtual learning on Thursday and Friday due to hazardous road conditions following a snow and ice storm.
This system initially brought some snow to the region around dinnertime on Saturday, Jan. 24, before turning into sleet and freezing rain in the early morning hours of Sunday, Jan. 25. That freezing rain quickly turned into ice, creating dangerous driving conditions.
Why aren’t Virginia’s roads being cleared quickly after snow, ice storm?
Districts across the region were closed Monday, Jan. 26 through Wednesday, Jan. 28. The following school divisions will continue to remain closed on Thursday, Jan. 29 and Friday, Jan. 30.
- Chesterfield County Public Schools
- Colonial Heights Public Schools
- Dinwiddie County Public Schools
- Henrico County Public Schools
- Prince Edward County Public Schools
- Goochland County Public Schools
The following districts will turn to virtual learning on Thursday and Friday:
- Hanover County Public Schools
- Louisa County Public Schools
- Petersburg City Public Schools
- Richmond City Public Schools
The following districts will be closed only on Thursday:
- Caroline County Public Schools
- Essex County Public Schools
- Fredericksburg City Public Schools
- Hopewell City Public Schools
- Middlesex County Public Schools
- Northumberland County Public Schools
- Prince George Conty Public Schools
- Richmond County Public Schools
- Sussex County Public Schools
The following districts will be remote only on Thursday:
- Cumberland County Public Schools
- Lancaster County Public Schools
