More than 100,000 speeding citations issued in Richmond school zones in 2025

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — The Richmond Police Department has released new data showing drivers continue to speed through school zones at alarming rates across the city.

In 2025 alone, more than 102,350 speeding citations were mailed to drivers caught by school zone safety cameras. Those citations total nearly 6.4 million dollars in fines, with $3,045,090 still unpaid.

River City Middle School recorded the highest number of citations, with 34,199 issued to drivers in 2025. Richmond High School for the Arts followed with 14,986 citations, while George Wythe High School and Frances McClenny Elementary School also ranked among the most ticketed locations with 12,419…
