Richmond police extend contract with Flock Safety for license plate readers

For two straight days, Richmonders went to City Hall to call on the police department to end its contract with Flock Safety for automatic license plate readers that capture data from passing vehicles.

“Flock Safety is not only fundamentally dangerous and unethical, but it places a large burden on our local law enforcement and decreases the trust and safety of our community,” Jing Lei, a 1st District resident, said during Monday’s city council meeting.
