‘It’s about accountability’: Family pushes for changes to Virginia birth injury fund

CHESTERFIELD, Va. (WWBT) – A Chesterfield mother says she is hesitant but trust that changes will come to the Virginia Birth Related neurological injury compensation fund, known as VBIF.

Sarah Paskins family has been a part of the program since 2023. It was determined that malpractice led to their daughters life altering brain injury at birth.

Paskins told 12 On Your Side that the program went months at a time without reimbursing them for their disabled daughter’s medically necessary expenses — in some cases leaving them out of pocket by as much as $100,000…
