DNA reveals identity of man hit, killed by truck on I-95 in 1977

ASHLAND, Va. (WWBT) – A team effort between Virginia State Police, Virginia’s Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, and the DNA Doe Project uncovered the identity of a man hit and killed by a truck on I-95 in Ashland nearly half a century ago.

“In most cases, like this one, it is a sad story, someone lost their life, so it’s certainly mixed feelings,” said Eryk Jan Grzeszkowiak , who works with the DNA Doe Project.

On March 23, 1977, a man was hit and killed by a truck on I-95 near Ashland, Virginia. While investigators said the man had a recognizable face, his identity was a mystery.

This week, the organization announced they were able to finally identify the Ashland John Doe as 20-year-old Peter Adams, an Illinois native who lived in Pennsylvania at the time of his disappearance…
