‘Unknown substance’ mailed to Richmond City Justice Center

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — A package containing an “unknown substance” was mailed to Richmond’s city jail on Tuesday, causing employees to be quarantined.

At about 5 p.m. on Tuesday, March 24, staff at the Richmond City Justice Center found a suspicious substance in a package addressed to the jail.

Multiple city departments, including the Richmond Fire Department, were immediately contacted. The fire department’s HAZMAT team came down to the jail, contained the substance and sent a sample to Virginia’s Division of Consolidated Laboratory Services (DCLS) so it could be identified…
