Persistent ICE activity at Richmond’s Southwood highlights monitoring efforts

One morning earlier this month, two vehicles with tinted windows hauled down Hull Street on Richmond’s Southside and blocked in a car waiting to turn left into a predominantly Latino neighborhood.

Men exited the vehicles wearing tactical vests with bold lettering reading “POLICE” and “ICE,” as observed by VPM News during a ride-along with a group of Richmond-area residents who monitor and document the presence of federal immigration agents.

The US Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents (one of whom wore a face covering) approached the car on both sides. The encounter lasted only a few minutes — before the agents drove off without making an arrest.
