HOPEWELL, Va. (WRIC) — Water bills for Virginia American Water customers could increase by nearly 30%, causing frustration among local leaders and residents.
With the average bill potentially going up by $11, leaders in the city of Hopewell and Prince George County said the potential rate hike is not reasonable or just. They said it’s the fourth significant rate increase request in the past eight years, and they’re asking residents to take a stand against it.
Virginia American Water filed the request to raise rates with the Virginia State Corporation Commission (SCC) back in November. Next month, the state will hold a public hearing on the proposal…
