CHESTERFIELD, Va. (WWBT) – For nearly three decades, Janet Lachowsky and Joseph Beauchamp have owned property along Coalfield Road and had high hopes on what to do with it.
“My neighbor next door, Barbara, and I were talking and we were both kind of looking at each other and dreaming about retiring,” Lachowsky said.
The Chesterfield couple and several of their neighbors have joined forces to sell their properties, which total about 40 acres, but they keep hitting roadblocks along the way.
At one point, Beauchamp said conversations were happening with the county to make this land the site of a future middle school between 2021 and 2022. However, Beauchamp said the county didn’t move forward with this and urged the property owners to seek a developer.
“We tried to sell to the county, negotiated for four years. At the end of four years, they told us we’re not interested in that property for a school anymore,” Beauchamp said.
