Richmond doctor who injected patients with ozone gas will see trial after plea agreement thrown out

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — A Richmond doctor who injected several patients — many of them unknowingly — with ozone gas will see trial after a federal judge threw out his plea agreement, saying it would have let him off far too easily.

On Tuesday, May 19, U.S. District Court judge Robert Payne rejected a plea agreement previously in the case of Dr. Jawad Bhatti of Richmond, who has been accused of several crimes relating to his alleged conduct while serving as the owner and operator of the Richmond pain management clinic Healing Hands of Virginia.

Bhatti was initially hit with dozens of federal charges surrounding accusations that he injected patients with a drug containing ozone gas. In the plea agreement, Bhatti agreed to plead guilty to only one of those charges — the use of a misbranded drug — with the understanding that the rest would be dismissed…
