Teen Passenger Dies in Solo-Car Crash on the 60 Freeway in Moreno Valley After Tesla Driver Speeds on Shoulder and Hits Guardrail

MORENO VALLEY, CA — A 17-year-old boy died after a single-car crash on the 60 Freeway in Moreno Valley, where authorities say a Tesla driver lost control while trying to pass traffic on the right shoulder.

The California Highway Patrol said the crash happened about 9:40 p.m. Sunday near Heacock Avenue. The teen was a rear passenger and was thrown from the vehicle.

CHP says driver was speeding before impact

According to investigators, the adult driver of the Tesla was going too fast and attempted to move around other traffic by using the freeway shoulder. The vehicle then struck a guardrail after the driver lost control.

Authorities did not release the identities of those involved.

Four other people were injured in the wreck

The driver was described as severely injured. Two other passengers also suffered injuries, while a third passenger was not hurt…
